of <h1>Chennai Customs Updates Online License Transmission for DES and EPCG Schemes Effective April 23, 2009. Manual Process Continues for Earlier Licenses.</h1> The circular from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs in Chennai outlines a revised procedure for the online transmission of licenses and authorizations under the Duty Exemption Scheme (DES) and Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme (EPCG). Effective from April 23, 2009, this procedure applies to licenses issued on or after March 1, 2009, by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Exporters and importers are instructed to use the License Number instead of manually obtained Registration Numbers for transactions. The previous manual registration process will continue for licenses issued before March 1, 2009. Any difficulties should be reported to the Commissioner of Customs.
