India Reduces Paperwork in Customs: Electronic Processing for Key Documents u/r 6 Effective December 2016.
The Government of India, through the Central Board of Excise and Customs, aims to enhance the ease of doing business by reducing paper usage in customs clearance. The initiative involves eliminating the printing of certain documents, including GAR7 forms, TR-6 challans, transshipment permits, and specific copies of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry. These documents will now be processed electronically, leveraging systems like ICEGATE, IDPMS, and EDPMS, ensuring secure data transfer and reducing transaction costs. However, printouts may still be provided upon request for specific cases. These changes took effect on December 1, 2016.
