of <h1>Electronic Filing of Excise Returns Mandatory via ACES from October 2011: Amendments to Central Excise Rules Enforced.</h1> The Central Board of Excise and Customs mandates electronic filing of Central Excise Returns via the ACES system starting October 1, 2011. Amendments to the Central Excise Rules, 2002, and CENVAT Credit Rules, 2004, require electronic submission of ER-1, ER-2, ER-3, ER-4, ER-5, ER-6, ER-7, and ER-8 returns, regardless of duty paid in the previous financial year. Assessees must secure login credentials from jurisdictional officers to access the ACES system. Help Centers are available for assistance, and trade associations are urged to inform their members of these changes. Compliance with these provisions is essential.
