SEBI Launches EDIFAR System for Online Filing by Listed Companies, Enhancing Transparency and Compliance from July 15, 2002.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in collaboration with the National Informatics Center (NIC), has introduced the Electronic Data Information Filing and Retrieval (EDIFAR) system for electronic filing of documents by listed companies. This system aims to streamline the dissemination of information to investors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders. Initially applicable to 200 companies, the system requires online submission of financial statements, corporate governance reports, shareholding patterns, and regulatory actions. Companies must appoint a compliance officer to ensure the accuracy and legality of the filings. The requirement is supplementary to existing stock exchange filing obligations, effective from July 15, 2002.
