of <h1>GST Exemption for IIMs: Long Programs Exempt; Short Programs Taxed at 18% Under IIM Act, 2018.</h1> The circular clarifies the applicability of GST on programs conducted by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). As of January 31, 2018, IIMs are recognized as educational institutions under the IIM Act, 2018, making their long-duration programs (one year or more) exempt from GST. Prior to this date, only specific programs were exempt. Short-duration programs, which do not confer recognized qualifications, remain subject to GST at 18%. The circular also notes that from January 31, 2018, IIMs could choose the most beneficial exemption between two available options until December 31, 2018.
