Customs Officers No Longer Need Board's Permission for COFEPOSA Action; 1991 Directive Withdrawn, New Protocols in Place.
The Central Board of Excise & Customs has decided to withdraw previous instructions requiring its permission to initiate action under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA) against Customs Officers. This decision, effective immediately, supersedes the directive issued in June 1991. However, if any government servant is detained under COFEPOSA, relevant details must still be provided to the Board.
