New Procedures for Excise Duties and Service Tax Collections: PAO-Wise Statements Replace Commissionerate-Wise Scrolling from April 2009.
The circular revises procedures for accounting excise duties and service tax collections, effective April 1, 2009. It eliminates the need for Commissionerate-wise scrolling by banks, instead requiring remittances and put-through statements to be prepared PAO-wise and major head-wise. This change aims to simplify processes and improve reconciliation between the Principal Account Office, Pay and Accounts Offices, banks, and the Reserve Bank of India. The revised procedures apply to various offices, including the PAO (Revenue) in Kolkata and Mumbai, and e-PAOs in Chennai and Mumbai. Banks are instructed to implement these changes accordingly.
