Government Reinstates Export Release Orders for Sugar under OGL from January 2009 due to Reduced Production.
The Central Government has reinstated the system of export release orders for sugar exports under the Open General License (OGL) effective from January 1, 2009. This decision follows a period during which the requirement for such orders was suspended due to excess sugar production in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. The suspension was initially set to end on September 30, 2008, but was extended until December 31, 2008. Given the reduced sugar production in the 2008-09 season, the reintroduction of export release orders is deemed necessary. The exemption for exports under the advance authorization scheme remains unchanged.
