Mutual Funds Must Offer Demat Option for All Schemes from October 1, 2011; ISIN Required in Statements.
The circular mandates that all Mutual Funds and Asset Management Companies (AMCs) provide investors the option to hold mutual fund units in dematerialized (demat) form for all schemes, including open-ended, close-ended, and interval schemes, starting October 1, 2011. AMCs must allow investors to specify their demat account details in subscription forms. Additionally, AMCs are required to ensure that each scheme option has an International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) and that this ISIN is included in all Statements of Account or Common Account Statements issued to investors. This directive aims to enhance investor protection and market regulation.
