SEBI Mandates Standardized Rating Symbols for Credit Rating Agencies to Enhance Investor Clarity and Fairness in Ratings.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a circular mandating the standardization of rating symbols and definitions used by Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs). This initiative aims to enhance investor understanding and ensure fairness in ratings. Standardized symbols and definitions have been established for various instruments, including long-term and short-term debt and structured finance instruments, as well as mutual fund schemes. CRAs are required to update their ratings, disclose new symbols on their websites, inform clients, and comply within four months. Compliance status must be reported to SEBI by October 31, 2011.
