SEBI Increases Custody Charges, Incentivizes BSDA Accounts in Tier II and III Towns to Boost Financial Inclusion.
The circular issued by SEBI revises the annual custody/issuer charges collected by depositories, increasing the per folio charge from Rs. 8 to Rs. 11, with specific fees based on the nominal value of securities. It aims to promote financial inclusion by incentivizing Depository Participants (DPs) through revenue sharing and encouraging the opening of Basic Services Demat Accounts (BSDA) in tier II and III towns. An incentive of Rs. 100 is provided for each new BSDA opened outside the top 15 cities. Additionally, DPs receive Rs. 2 per folio per ISIN for holdings in BSDA. The scheme will be reviewed after two years and is effective from the 2015-16 financial year.
