SEBI Requires Mutual Funds to Disclose Total Expense Ratio Online; Notify Investors of Changes via Email or SMS.
The circular issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) mandates mutual funds and asset management companies to disclose the Total Expense Ratio (TER) of all schemes prominently on their websites in a downloadable format. Any changes to the base TER, excluding additional expenses, must be communicated to investors via email or SMS at least three working days in advance. Decreases in TER due to increased net assets do not require prior notice but must be communicated immediately. These changes must also be reported to the Board of Directors and Trustees. The circular applies immediately to new schemes and from March 1, 2018, for existing ones.
