DGFT Clarifies SEIS Eligibility: Educational Services to NRI Students Qualify; NRI-Sponsored Indian Students Do Not.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has clarified the eligibility criteria for firms providing educational services to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) students under the Services Exports from India Scheme (SEIS). According to the circular, educational services offered by Indian institutions to NRI students qualify for SEIS benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020. However, services provided to Indian students sponsored by NRIs do not qualify, as these students are not considered foreign consumers. This clarification follows consultations with the Department of Commerce and has been approved by the DGFT.
