Tuticorin Customs Introduces Electronic Transmission for Shipping Bills and DEPB Licences, Reducing Manual Verification Needs.
The circular from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs, Tuticorin, outlines a new procedure for the electronic transmission of Shipping Bills and DEPB Licences at the Custom House and Inland Container Depot, Tuticorin. This change, effective from April 9, 2007, eliminates the need for manual verification of DEPB Licences at EDI ports. Importers must provide hard copies of DEPBs to designated officers until the system stabilizes. The DEPB number must be mentioned on the bill of entry for duty payment. The previous procedures remain for DEPBs issued before April 9, 2007. Any issues should be reported to the Additional Commissioner.
