EU Mandates Aflatoxin Testing for Nutmeg & Mace Exports; Compliance Required by January 1, 2011. Contact Customs for Issues.
The EU has issued a rapid alert notification regarding aflatoxin levels in nutmeg and mace, mandating sampling, testing, and certification for exports. The Spices Board circular requires that only consignments with aflatoxin levels within acceptable limits be cleared for export based on an analytical report. Initially effective from October 2009, the requirement for mandatory compliance will now commence on January 1, 2011. Exporters facing difficulties with this implementation should contact the Commissioner of Customs (Export) at Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House, Nhava Sheva.
