Export Release Orders Required for Sugar under OGL from Jan 1, 2009, Due to Lower Production Forecasts.
The Central Government has reinstated the requirement for export release orders for sugar exports under the Open General License (OGL) effective from January 1, 2009. This decision follows a period during which the requirement was suspended due to high sugar production in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. The suspension was initially set to end on September 30, 2008, but was extended until December 31, 2008. The reinstatement is due to anticipated lower sugar production in the 2008-09 season. The exemption for exports under the advance authorization scheme will remain in effect. Customs field formations are instructed to ensure compliance.
