Previously, EDD payments were made manually, causing delays in import clearance and challenges in storing and verifying bank challans. The new procedure allows importers or Customs Brokers to make EDD payments online through e-payment, effective from August 1, 2015. The process involves generating a challan through ICES 1.5, verifying details, and ensuring payment before receiving an 'Out of Charge' status. Manual payments will no longer be accepted after July 31, 2015.
