of <h1>Ministry Circular Allows Default Operations in SEZs to Start Immediately Upon Notification; Includes Key Infrastructure Activities.</h1> The circular from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, dated August 22, 2008, addresses default authorized operations for Special Economic Zones (SEZs). It reiterates that certain operations can commence by default upon SEZ notification to avoid project delays. Development Commissioners may permit duty-free materials for these activities. Developers or Co-Developers must apply separately for other operations. The annexure lists default operations across sectors like IT, biotechnology, and multi-product zones, including infrastructure such as roads, water treatment, sewage disposal, electrical networks, telecom facilities, and office space for customs and security.
