Cochin Customs Proposes Reducing FCL Custody Period to 7 Days to Ease Terminal Congestion at Rajeev Gandhi Terminal.
The Commissioner of Customs in Cochin has issued a notice addressing congestion at the Rajeev Gandhi International Terminal. M/s. India Gateway Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (IGTPL), the terminal operator, has requested a reduction in the statutory custody period for Full Container Load (FCL) from 30 to 7 days, allowing authorized agents to move containers to a Container Freight Station (CFS) for further customs clearance. The transshipment process requires amendments to Import General Manifests and written requests from importers or agents. If containers are not moved within 30 days, IGTPL can dispose of them under Section 48 of the Customs Act. The procedure will be periodically reviewed.
