India Ends DEPB Scheme on Oct 1, 2011; Exporters Must Shift to New Drawback Schedule and Update Shipping Bills.
The DEPB scheme will be abolished from October 1, 2011, with a new Drawback Schedule introduced. Changes in the India Customs EDI System (ICES 1.5) will prevent acceptance of DEPB shipping bills from this date. Exporters must cancel old DEPB shipping bills and file new ones under the Drawback Scheme. The EDI system will continue to process DEPB imports until the validity of DEPB scrips. Exporters need to register bank details for drawback disbursement. The procedure for claiming drawbacks remains unchanged, and exporters can check the status of claims online. Any issues should be reported to the Commissioner of Customs.
