<h1>India Cuts Excise Duty on Iron, Steel to 8% and Slashes Customs Duty on Coal, Pig Iron Effective Feb 28, 2004.</h1> The Government of India has revised customs and excise duties on iron, steel, and coal, effective February 28, 2004. Excise duty on iron and steel under chapter 72 is reduced from 16% to 8%. Customs duty on pig iron is reduced from 10% to 5%, non-coking coal from 15% to 5%, and coking coal with ash content below 12% is now duty-free. These changes are implemented through Notification Nos. 44/2004-Customs and 16/2004-Central Excise, and details are available via EDECS and the department's website.
