Depreciation Rules Update: Full Allowance for All Factories Since 1970-71; Special Provisions for Extra Shifts and Hotels.
Circular No. 109, dated March 20, 1973, clarifies the rules for normal and extra shift depreciation allowances for factories and approved hotels. Up to 1969-70, non-seasonal factories received no depreciation unless operational for over 30 days, while seasonal factories received full depreciation if operational during all working seasons. From 1970-71, both seasonal and non-seasonal factories qualify for full depreciation if operational at any time during the year. Extra shift allowances, available only if double or triple shifts are proven, are not applicable to certain machinery. Approved hotels receive an extra allowance equal to half of the normal depreciation.
