of <h1>Board Implements Measures to Clear Backlog of 2007-08 Tax Returns; Outsourcing and Software Solutions Introduced.</h1> The Board has outlined measures to address the backlog of pending income tax returns for Assessment Year 2007-08. Chief Commissioners of Income Tax (CCsIT) are to redeploy staff and consider outsourcing data entry to manage workloads. The AST Software will be used for networked stations, while TMS Software will serve non-networked stations. Specific guidelines for verifying Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) claims are provided, with simplified processes for smaller claims. A TDS compliance drive is initiated to ensure deductors file returns, with a focus on cases where PANs were missing. This drive is to be completed by August 31, 2008.
