of <h1>Amendment to Central Excise Rules: Stricter Penalties for Defaulting Manufacturers on Fortnightly Duty Payments.</h1> Notification No.1/2001-Central Excise dated January 11, 2001, amends provisions for the fortnightly payment of duty under Central Excise rules. The amendment addresses cases where certain assessees failed to pay substantial dues despite being barred from installment payments for two months. The updated rules stipulate that if a manufacturer defaults on payments during this period, they will continue to forfeit the installment facility until all outstanding dues are cleared. If dues are paid within the two-month period, the manufacturer can resume the facility immediately after this period. The trade and relevant authorities are to be informed accordingly.
