<h1>New Delhi Circular: Banks to Validate 15-Character Assessee Codes on Challans; Temporary Codes Required if Unavailable.</h1> The Commissioner of Service Tax in New Delhi issued a circular regarding the enhancement of challan data quality under the EASIEST system. Following a High Powered Committee meeting, it was decided that banks must validate the 15-character PAN/TAN-based Assessee Code on challans, and older codes will no longer be accepted. If an Assessee Code is unavailable, a Temporary Code must be used. Banks must ensure the structural correctness of the Assessee Code as per specified guidelines. Trade associations are urged to widely publicize these changes among their members.
