India Raises Overseas Investment Limits: JV and WOS Cap Increased to 300% of Net Worth, Excluding Partnerships.
The circular announces the liberalization of regulations related to Overseas Direct Investment for Indian entities. The investment limit for Indian parties in Joint Ventures and Wholly Owned Subsidiaries abroad has been raised from 200% to 300% of their net worth, excluding registered partnership firms, which remain at 200%. The definition of 'financial commitment' now includes 100% of guarantees issued by Indian parties. Additionally, listed Indian companies can now invest up to 35% of their net worth in foreign equities, an increase from the previous 25%. Amendments to the relevant regulations will be notified separately.
