DGFT Clarifies Import Rules: Vitamins Can't Be Classified as Animal Feed Supplements Under Heading 23.09.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a clarification regarding the classification of animal feed supplements under the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items 1997-2002. Specifically, products typically classified under Chapter 29, which pertains to organic chemicals, are being incorrectly imported under Exim Code 23099003.10, meant for animal feed. The DGFT emphasizes that Heading 23.09, which covers animal feed products, excludes those in Chapter 29. Consequently, vitamins such as Vitamin A and AD3 cannot be imported as prawn, shrimp, or poultry feed under Heading 23.09. This directive is approved by the DGFT.
