Shipping Lines Handling 5000+ TEUs Annually Exempted from Bank Guarantees for Transshipment Operations per CBEC Circular.
The circular issued by the Central Board of Excise and Customs addresses the exemption of bank guarantees for shipping lines handling over 5000 TEUs of import containers annually. These shipping lines, involved in the transshipment of import and export cargo between Gateway Ports and feeder ports/ICDs/CFSs, will no longer be required to furnish a bank guarantee. This decision modifies an earlier circular from 2001, reflecting recommendations from the Department of Commerce. The new instructions are to be communicated to all relevant parties, with a Hindi version to follow.
