DGFT Removes Mandatory Export Sample Testing for Basmati Rice, Overturning Previous Policy Circulars.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has withdrawn the requirement for drawing export samples of basmati rice for variety identification. This decision nullifies previous policy circulars, specifically Policy Circular No. 33 (RE-2008) dated 30th September 2008, and Policy Circular No. 28/2009-14 dated 31st March 2010, which mandated sample analysis by Customs and designated testing centers. The withdrawal is effective immediately, following the liberalization of non-basmati rice exports on 9th September 2011. This change has been authorized by the Director General of Foreign Trade.
