Foreign vessels now allowed to carry Rs. 100 notes for crew wages alongside Rs. 50 notes
The circular permits foreign-going vessels to carry Indian currency notes of Rs. 100 denomination in addition to the previously allowed Rs. 50 notes for crew wage disbursement. This decision responds to a request from the shipowners' association citing difficulties in handling large volumes of smaller denomination notes. The authorization is subject to standard conditions prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India. Customs officers are instructed to issue public notices informing stakeholders of this change and report any implementation difficulties to the Central Board of Excise and Customs.
