of <h1>BSNL Tiruchirapalli Maintains Service Tax Exemption for Local Calls Under Notification No.03/1994-ST, Despite Corporatization.</h1> The circular addresses the eligibility of M/s Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Tiruchirapalli, for service tax exemption under Notification No.03/1994-ST dated 30.6.1994. The issue arose after BSNL, formerly the Department of Telecommunications, was corporatized on 1.11.2000. The exemption applies to 'Departmentally run Public Telephones for local calls.' Despite BSNL's change in status, the circular clarifies that BSNL remains eligible for the exemption under Sl.No.13 of the notification, which covers 'Guaranteed Public Telephone operating only for local calls.' All pending issues should be resolved in accordance with this clarification.
