of <h1>EOU misused Excise Notification 8/97, evading Rs. 2.6 crores duty by clearing restricted cotton yarn</h1> A 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) misused Central Excise Notification No. 8/97 by clearing cotton yarn made from duty-free locally procured cotton yarn and imported Poly Vinyl Acetate to the Domestic Tariff Area, despite the notification allowing exemption only for goods produced entirely from indigenous raw materials. This misuse led to duty evasion amounting to Rs. 2.6 crores. Authorities are instructed to ensure vigilance and prevent recurrence of such violations within their jurisdictions. Receipt of the circular is to be acknowledged.
