Income Tax Assessments Must Be Evenly Distributed; High-Income Cases to Be Prioritized by January 1974.
In the financial years 1970-73, income tax assessments and demands were unevenly distributed, peaking in March and being lowest in April, leading to criticism. The Board has repeatedly instructed that assessments should be evenly spread throughout the year, with high-income cases finalized by December. However, these instructions have not been adequately followed. To address this, the Board directs that revenue-yielding cases be prioritized in January 1974. Instructions are to be issued for preparing lists of pending high-income and company cases by January 15, 1974, with guidance provided for their finalization by the end of January. A progress report is due by February 5, 1974.
