ITAT website search of orders through case status link is convenient and comprehensive option

DEV KUMAR KOTHARI
Tribunal order search accessibility requires assessee-name retrieval, timely case-status updates, and organised electronic notices for effective legal research. The case-status search facility permits searches by appeal number, filing date, assessee name and acknowledgement number, and may link to an order where one has been passed. It is considered more comprehensive than the separate order-search facility because it allows assessee-name and partial-name searches. Order searches remain available by appeal number, order date, pronouncement date and member name. Reintroduction of assessee-name searching for orders, together with bench-wise organisation and timely updating of notices, cause lists, case status and orders, is proposed to improve website usability. (AI Summary)

Website of ITAT has improved a lot and some area of improvement still need attention.

Search of orders of ITAT - search through case status link is convenient and comprehensive option in comparison to search through link for 'search of orders' which can be improved by re-introducing search by name.

https://itat.gov.in/https://itat.gov.in/ IS WEBSITE OF ITAT and on this website there is link for notice board as follows:

https://itat.gov.in/judicial/notice_board

Under this link we find links for case status and Orders besides link of notice board which contains other information about benches, constitution,

cause lists news about benches for .adjournment, re-fixation of cases etc. are found.

In search of orders selection of Bench AGARA to Vishakhapatnam are provided in drop link, Type of appeal, and other information are to be filled in depending on criterion of search as required in search page.

SEARCH PAGES _ sent separately to be inserted by editor.

Case status can be searched with following criterion:

Search by Appeal Number

Search by Date of Filing

Search by Assessee Name

Search by Acknowledgement Number

Case Status search:

Search by appeal number

This is most specific search because status or order only for particular appeal number will be searched and found in results.

This can be used only when appeal number is known and you want to restrict search for that appeal only.

Search by date of filing will provide results for various appeals filed on the date for which search is made.

In this link also link for order is provided, if order has been passed.

Search by Assessee name - in this search results of all appeals of that name will appear. For this search part of name can only be applied in that case result will

be for all names in which that part is found. For example, if you search with SUGAR, all cases in name of which sugar is found will appear.

This is useful search if a type of cases are to be search as a broad search though it is not necessary that particular word is used in name of industry specific assesses.

Search by Acknowledgement Number will also be specific to particular case as in case of search by appeal number.

Whereas search of orders can be made with following criterion:

Search by Appeal Number - This will be very specific if appeal number is known.

Search by Order Date - This will result in all orders of that date for all benches zone selected.

Search by Pronouncement Date - this will result in all orders pronounced on the selected date for the selected Bench zone.

Search by Member Name - this will result in search of all orders in which the selected honourable member is author or even co-author of the order passed at selected Bench zone.

In search of orders by name earlier their was option to search with name of assesse but this has been changed.

Search of orders with name of assesse or part of name of assesse was a good option and that need to be reintroduced for providing better option for search.

Suggestions to ITAT

Author has sent suggestions from time to time, some suggestions have been implemented also. Responses by way of reply and implementations can be considered good. Now we find that website of ITAT has improved a lot and we also find quick publications of orders. In some matters improvement is desired for timely publication of notices fo constitution and case lists for Fridays

SOME OF EMAILS SENT BY AUTHOR INFORMING DIFFICULTIES AND suggestions are indicated below:

Suggestion for website

Suggestion for website:

The e-notice board is not arranged properly, information is in haphazard manner.

I re-iterate my suggestion to place information bench wise so that one can find relevant information

quickly and easily with more confidence.

search facility with name of assessee, bench, date etc. can also be added.

At present, it is very difficult to be sure to get relevant information.

The e-notice and cause lists are now regarded as notice, particularly in case of adjournment due to non-functioning of benches, therefore, user friendly e-notice on website is very much required.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Dev Kumar Kothari

to ITAT

Dear Sirs,

Links for orders like search order, pronouncement, etc. are not appearing on home page http://itat.nic.in/ . On other links also I could not find the same.

There seems no site map also.

Please guide me.

Or is it temporary technical problem / snag in course of improving / maintaining websites? If so when we can expect improved links and information.

Re: Website -update and make user friendly

mailed-by:

Dear Sirs,

Congratulations for some improvements noticed in website of ITAT during my visit to the website during last week and just now.

Some of my suggestions have also been implemented e.g. about drop list is now in alphabital order.

However, case status, orders etc. are not yet updated.

for example I was looking for case status of ITA no. 630 and 631/2015 before Kolkata Bench. But information are missing about

first hearing, last hearing, next hearing etc.

There is also delay in uploading of orders.

I hope for more information on website on real time basis.

Thanks

Dev Kumar Kothari

Dear Sirs,

I suggest that search facility be improved by including search by name (part of name) of:

Members, assessee,

by date of pronouncement etc as there was such facility earlier.

Search by section of enactments can be provided e.g IT Act S. 2, 3, 4 ...,

In droplist for selection of item alphabatical arrangement be made for ease in selsction. For example in link for case status, for benches list of benches is not found in alphabatical ordedr plese see http://119.226.207.84/itat/page/content/case-status

drop list is Mumbai, Pune, nagpur, panji, bilaspur .......

similar is in case of search of orders in link http://119.226.207.84/itat/page/content/tribunal-orders

IN notice board http://119.226.207.84/itat/page/content/Notice-Board also information can be provided bench wise matter wise and date wise for example :

Kolkata - cause list - dates

Kolkata - constitution- dates

I hope your it team will consider suggestions for improvement of website as user friendly.

Regards,
