STATISTICS ON COMPANIES AS ON 31.08.2022

Companies are registered under Companies Act, 2013 or under the provisions of Companies Act, 1956 with the respective Registrar of Companies coming under the control of Ministry of Corporate Affairs.  From the date of incorporation of the Company to the dissolution of the company the provisions of Companies Act, 2013 and the rules made there under are applicable.  Various returns and forms are to be filed according the transactions undertaken by the Company.  Failure to comply with the provisions of Companies Act and the rules made there under penal proceedings may be initiated against the Company and the Officer-in-default.  The Registrar is empowered to strike off the Company.

Ministry of Corporate Affairs every month publishes its ‘Monthly Information Bulletin’ which gives various statistics of company at the end of the period of that month. 

In this article the information as contained in the ‘Monthly Information Bulletin’ as on August 2022 is discussed.

Out of the 14,81,655 companies limited by shares 68,416 are public companies; 14,13,249 companies are private companies. 

Out of the 68,416 of public companies 6744 companies are listed companies and the remaining 61,672 are unlisted companies.

The private companies 14,13,249 includes 45,577 One Person Companies.

Companies – unlimited liability

Out of 296 unlimited companies, 37 companies are public companies and the remaining 259 companies are private companies.

Company Limited by Guarantee

Out of 9,972 companies limited by guarantee 7472 companies are private companies and the remaining 2320 are public companies. 

Out of 2320 public companies 15 companies are listed companies and the remaining 2305 companies are unlisted companies.

New Registrations during August 2022

During August 2022, 14471 new companies were registered with a collective paid up capital of Rs.871.11 crore.  Among 14471 companies, 14,388 companies are limited by shares with the paid up capital of 871.08 crores  and 83 companies are limited by guarantee having paid up capital of 0.03 crore.

The top three States receiving highest registration are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Direct Identification Number

During August 2022, 31678 Director Identification Number were registered.  98% relates to Indian nationals and 2% relates foreign nationals.  During this month 179 Director Identification Numbers were deactivated.  Out of the total directors 70% are males and the remaining 30% are females.

One Person Companies

Till 31.08.2022 a total number of 45577 One Person Companies were active with a collective paid up capital of Rs.607.41 crore.  During August 838 One Person Companies were registered with capital of Rs.8.05 crore.

Limited Liability Partnership

As on 31.08.2022 a total number of 252460 Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)s, are there in our country.  About 213030 LLPs (84.38%) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs.  Only 3.03% LLPs have an obligation of contribution above Rs.1 Crore.  During the quarter from June 2022 to August 2022, 10592 LLPs were registered.

Foreign Companies

Up to 31.08.2022, a total of 5073 foreign companies were registered in India.  Out of these 65% of companies are active.  The sector wise foreign companies are as detailed below-
