Government supersession power suspends commission, vacates members and vests its powers pending reconstitution and parliamentary reporting.

Central Government may supersede the commission for specified reasons-inability to function, persistent default causing financial or administrative harm, or public interest-by notification after affording the commission a reasonable opportunity to represent. Upon notification the Chairperson and Members vacate office; the Government or a specified authority assumes all powers, functions and duties, and commission properties vest in the Government until reconstitution. The Government must reappoint a fresh commission before the supersession period expires and lay the notification and a full report before each House of Parliament.
