SEBI can inspect or investigate companies issuing sweat equity for regulatory breaches or complaints under Regulation 18.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has the authority to order inspections or investigations into the books and conduct of companies or individuals involved in the issuance of sweat equity. This can be initiated either suo-motu or based on received information. Such actions are aimed at identifying potential regulatory contraventions or addressing complaints from investors or others. Inspections are conducted by officers not below the rank of Assistant General Manager, while investigations require officers of at least Division Chief rank. An official order authorizes these actions, and the concerned parties must comply with Regulation 18.
