Custody and disposal of baggage governs detention, clearance, sale, and application of proceeds for prohibited, dutiable, or unclaimed goods.

Detained or unclaimed baggage not cleared or re-exported within six months of the passenger's arrival, or an authorised extension of up to six months, may be sold or otherwise disposed of after notice to the passenger and permission of the proper officer. Sale proceeds are applied to sale expenses, carrier charges, duty, custody charges, and customs-related dues of the owner. Any balance is payable to the owner, but becomes payable to the Central Government if it cannot be paid within the permitted period.
