Compensation for accusation without reasonable cause: magistrate may require complainant to show cause and order payment pending appeal.

Where an accused is discharged or acquitted and the Magistrate finds there was no reasonable ground for the accusation, the Magistrate may call on the complainant or informant to show cause and may order payment of compensation to the accused, not exceeding the Magistrate's fine powers, after recording reasons; default may attract simple imprisonment. Payment does not bar later civil or criminal liability and is subject to appeal and withholding rules; the provision applies to summons and warrant cases.
