Protection of customs data restricts publication of exporter and importer information unless authorised or otherwise required by law.

Protection of information furnished to customs by an exporter or importer covers data on the value, classification, or quantity of goods for export or import, together with the identity of the persons involved or material revealing such identity. Publication is prohibited unless required by law or specifically authorised by the exporter or importer, and contravention attracts imprisonment, fine, or both. The provision does not apply to publication made by or on behalf of the Central Government, or to data sourced from such publication for trade trend analysis and dissemination. "Publishes" includes reproduction in print or electronic form and making the information available to the public.
