Foreign exchange import permits unrestricted inflows, subject to customs declaration requirements for currency notes and travellers cheques above prescribed thresholds.

Import of foreign exchange into India is permitted without limit, subject to exclusion of unissued notes. Foreign exchange brought from outside India requires a declaration to Customs authorities on arrival in the prescribed Currency Declaration Form. No declaration is required where the aggregate value of currency notes, bank notes and travellers cheques does not exceed US$10,000 or its equivalent, and/or foreign currency notes do not exceed US$5,000 or its equivalent at one time.
