In the present case, the A.Y. was 1985-86, therefore, the assessment could have been completed before 31.03.1988 if the provisions of Section 153(1)(a) of the Act were applicable and the same could be completed within the extended period if the provisions of Section 153(1)(b) of the Act were applicable.
