The Central Government, under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act and procedural rules, establishes the Development Council for Sugar Industry for a two year tenure and appoints a Chair (Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution), a Member Secretary (Joint Secretary in charge of Sugar) and members drawn from government departments, technical institutes, industry associations, financial and cooperative bodies and individual industry representatives.

Recognition certificate validity updated: certificates commence from plant evaluation visit and are renewable upon compliant application.
Certificates of recognition commence from the date of the plant visit by the Evaluation Committee and are issued for a five-year term; renewal requires submission of a renewal application with the requisite fee and completion of the prescribed procedural requirements, after which the certificate may be renewed for a further five-year period.

The Central Government, exercising powers under Section 3 of the National Tax Tribunal Act, 2005, issued a notification establishing the National Tax Tribunal with immediate effect, constituting the tribunal by ministerial action as the designated forum to administer matters within its statutory remit.
