Summary: Implementation of GST requires coordinated enactment of central and state laws, approval of outstanding rules, and administrative readiness. Key operational prerequisites include finalising rules on composition, valuation, transition, input tax credit, invoicing and returns; completing rate fitment in the multi tier structure and compensation cess decisions; migrating taxpayers and commissioning the GST Network IT infrastructure; and issuing guidance on anti profiteering to mitigate transitional risks.

Summary: Eight States enacted their State GST Acts within a concentrated period following the GST Council's approval of a model State GST Bill, with remaining legislatures expected to complete enactment shortly; administrative coordination, scheduled Council meetings, a national roll out target, and state and central outreach programmes are underway to align law making and implementation across jurisdictions.
Summary: The Board, invoking section 14 of the Customs Act, superseded Notification No.40/2017-CUSTOMS (N.T.) and prescribed specified rupee conversion rates for each listed foreign currency, distinguishing rates for imported goods and for export goods, effective 05th May, 2017, with rates set out in Schedule I (per unit) and Schedule II (per 100 units) for application in customs valuation of imports and exports.
Summary: The introduction of GST is framed as a transformative regulatory change for the media and broadcasting sector, expected to catalyse opportunities in content distribution and technological adoption. Parallel developments-digital broadcasting, radio revival, cable digitisation, free-to-air DTH growth-and a policy push to expand Digital Terrestrial Television coverage are identified as complementary forces that will influence industry structure and service delivery.
Summary: The Income Tax department activated e-filing for all ITR categories for AY 2017-18 and released all seven ITR forms, including the simplified ITR-1 (SAHAJ). Electronic verification via Aadhaar is supported so taxpayers need not send ITR V by post; the Finance Act, 2017 mandates quoting Aadhaar or enrolment ID for ITR filing and requires Aadhaar for PAN applications from July 1, 2017. Taxpayers should prepare prior-year ITR, bank statements, TDS and other documents before filing; the filing deadline is July 31.
Summary: Constitution of a Technical Committee under Regulation 14 to recommend technical standards for Information Utilities, including API design, standard terms of service, user registration and unique identifiers, submission protocols, identification, authentication and verification of information, data integrity, consent frameworks for third party access, system and information security, risk management, porting, exchange and interoperability of information, and preservation and purging policies.
Summary: Publication of a daily reference exchange rate for the US dollar with the previous day's comparator; euro, pound sterling and yen exchange rates are presented as derived from that US dollar reference using middle cross currency quotes, and the SDR rupee rate is declared to be based on the reference rate.
Summary: Disruptive ICT technologies require a distinct regulatory and antitrust approach because online markets feature low switching costs and multi homing; both the competitive process and innovation must be protected. Error cost analysis is a key tool to weigh chilling effects on investment from false prosecution against consumer harm from false acquittal. Platform and product design are central in nascent markets, and policy measures like boosting digital literacy and careful policy anchoring support consumer welfare in imperfect markets.
Summary: Cabinet approved modifications to the 7th CPC recommendations effective 1 January 2016, adopting a PPO based method to fix notional pay for revision of pensions of pre 2016 pensioners and family pensioners, benefitting over 55 lakh pensioners and adding about Rs. 5031 crore expenditure for 2016-17; Cabinet also retained the percentage based disability pension regime for defence pensioners instead of a slab system, incurring approximately Rs. 130 crore per annum.
Summary: Cabinet approval permits M/s. Twin Star Technologies Ltd. to receive foreign investment from Twin Star Overseas Ltd., Mauritius, to undertake downstream investment in Indian operating companies using equity, compulsorily convertible debentures, compulsorily convertible preference shares and other FDI compliant instruments for entities eligible under the FDI automatic route.
