Financial-sector tokenisation and self-regulation are proposed alongside fiduciary data stewardship for next-generation digital finance services.
Financial-sector digitalisation is being advanced through proposed tokenisation of corporate bonds, digital public infrastructure for next-generation financial services, and recognition of an additional self-regulatory organisation. The Unified Lending Interface is identified as an example of such infrastructure. Trust is central to the financial system, and fintech entities are expected to treat data as a fiduciary responsibility rather than as a business asset. United Fintech Forum has received approval as the second self-regulatory organisation for the financial sector.

Gold loan valuation depends on purity, net gold weight, prescribed gold price and tiered loan-to-value limits.
Gold loan eligibility and estimated borrowing capacity depend on gold purity, eligible net gold weight, the applicable valuation price and the Loan-to-Value (LTV) limit. An online calculator may provide a preliminary estimate based on borrower-entered details, but cannot determine the final sanctioned amount. Valuation excludes stones, beads, gems and other non-gold components and remains subject to physical verification of gold weight, purity and eligibility. Tiered RBI LTV limits restrict maximum borrowing against assessed gold value, while borrowers should review applicable interest, fees, repayment terms and other charges.

Electric motorcycle adoption depends on local assembly, battery swapping, affordable finance, reliable power, and interoperable infrastructure across African markets.
African electric two- and three-wheeler markets combine imports of Chinese electric scooters for consumer use with commercially focused electric motorcycle ecosystems supported by local assembly, battery swapping, charging, financing and servicing. Battery swapping supports intensive commercial operations by allowing rapid replacement of depleted batteries. However, local production remains dependent on imported motors, controllers and battery cells. Proprietary battery systems and fragmented swapping networks restrict interoperability, manufacturing scale and battery resale value. Wider adoption depends on affordable finance, reliable electricity, adequate infrastructure, predictable policies and standardisation.

Responsible financial technology requires purpose-led design, proportionate safeguards, accountable governance, and adaptive policy to protect customers and resilience.
Emerging financial technologies should be evaluated by the financial need they address rather than by novelty alone. Their benefits depend on inclusive design choices such as interoperability, common standards and accessibility. Prudence requires safeguards against risks arising from automation speed, concentration in technology dependencies and opacity in advanced models. Institutions remain accountable for customer fairness and risk management despite algorithmic decision-making or third-party technology provision. Policy should apply proportionate governance, validation, oversight and intervention requirements, while allowing controlled experimentation and adaptive supervision to support responsible innovation.

Rupee depreciation amid elevated crude prices increases import-bill and current-account pressures as dollar demand remains persistent.
Rupee depreciation against the US dollar was linked to Brent crude prices exceeding USD 100, persistent dollar demand and concern over India's import bill. India's substantial dependence on crude imports makes sustained oil-price increases a source of pressure on the import bill, current account and rupee. FCNR-related dollar inflows have largely faded, while movement above the 95 USD/INR level generated additional dollar demand and was viewed as technically significant.

Mumbai, Sep 10 (PTI) State Bank of India Chairman C S Setty on Thursday dismissed concerns that FCNR(B) flows could lead to "abnormal lending", pointing out that the inflows would be deployed over a period of up to four months.

Setty, who heads India's largest lender, said bankers would be responsible for deploying the funds of over USD 127 billion garnered from the diaspora as part of the special concessional swap window from the RBI (Reserve Bank Of India).

"I don't think (it will lead to abnormal lending), everybody will be more responsible," Setty told reporters on the sidelines of the annual GFF (Global Fintech Fest) here, replying to a question on whether the inflows will lead to abnormal lending.

Speaking at the same event on Wednesday, the third largest private sector lender Axis Bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Amitabh Chaudhry had flagged concerns that the FCNR(B) money could lead to some "abnormal lending".

Setty said the money will get deployed in the next three to four months.

He said the RBI's six-member monetary policy committee is unlikely to go for a rate hike in the next policy review in October.

A lot of market watchers have been speaking about the possibility of a rate hike, especially with inflation risks because of the geopolitical tensions and also the narrowing of the rate differential between India and the US.

BANKING ON AI ----------------- Speaking at the event earlier, Setty said Indian banks have been using artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for many years, and cited SBI's own pioneering efforts in the area by using such technology inputs for customer services and some lending products as well.

With the age of agentic AI before us, Setty said, "We may need to devise a 'know your agent' (KYA) on the lines of know your customer (KYC) guidelines which the banks have adopted. He said it will be necessary to devise such guidelines especially in a world where customers' AI agents become commonplace." The initial costs of deployment will be high on agentic AI, but the incremental costs will be low as it is used widely, Setty said.

Setty further said agents can be deployed in areas where the scale and speed in transactions that they bring about change the life of a customer.

In a situation where there will be increased automation, banking sector employees will have to concentrate on honing relationships and problem solving.

Stating that technology inputs are largely used by relationship managers and wealth management firms serving the top billing clients, Setty said the usage of AI will help democraticise financial intelligence.

The next frontier for India is to develop foundational large models which understand and inculcate the diversity of the country which will ensure its success, Setty said.

Agentic AI will require a "coalition" to work together, which will involve the government and regulators ensuring that innovation happens within the confines of a set space, he said. PTI AA VHI DR DR
