Model mediation procedures enable mutually agreed mediation with a mediator and a time bound effort to reach a solution.
An annexure on model mediation procedures permits a Party to request mediation against a measure alleged to adversely affect trade, requires sufficiently detailed requests identifying the measure and effects, and makes mediation subject to mutual agreement. The annexure governs mediator selection, locations and modalities, provides that failure to agree on a mediator within the specified time results in rejection of the request, encourages a time bound endeavour to reach a mutually agreed solution after mediator appointment, and allows consideration of interim solutions.

Political accountability: Opposition criticised for AI Summit protest, while government affirms focus on national development and institutional strengthening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the opposition for a shirtless protest at an AI summit as evidence of its decline, emphasising that the government will continue its development agenda. He argued that an opposition's democratic role is to offer alternatives rather than reflexive opposition, cited millennials and Gen Z voter shifts as eroding the opposition's support, and linked recent trade deals to strengthened national institutions and reclaimed capability.

Border management measures: intensified vigilance and financial scrutiny to prevent illegal migration and secure identity records.
Directives mandate intensified vigilance, inter-agency coordination and stricter financial scrutiny in India-Nepal border districts to counter illegal migration. Authorities will verify reported migrants and death cases, update or delete identity records upon confirmation, and conduct door-to-door verification while safeguarding genuine voters. A zero-tolerance stance on illegal construction and encroachments is paired with verification of business financing. District magistrates must ensure bank compliance with RBI reporting and PAN linkage, and sub-registrar offices face accountability for defective reporting of high-value property transactions.

Creditor-driven decision-making upheld: courts must limit review to statutory confines to preserve insolvency speed and finality.
The IBC privileges creditor-driven decision-making, speed and certainty by confining judicial review to narrow statutory compliance, thereby protecting commercial choices of the Committee of Creditors as matters of commercial wisdom. Expansive judicial scrutiny is value-destructive-lengthening timelines, raising transaction costs, encouraging strategic litigation and undermining predictability and finality-so respect for statutory limits preserves timely reorganisation of viable firms and swift exit of non-viable businesses.

Prima-facie evidence assessment dictates whether complex corruption prosecutions can be sustained on available investigative material.
Prima-facie assessment of available evidence was central to the judge's review of the excise-policy prosecution: the court found the prosecution's material lacked concrete proof and relied on conjecture, and accordingly declined to sustain charges against the accused. The judge's prior decisions emphasize insistence on statutory preconditions for money laundering allegations and close scrutiny of magistrate and summons orders.

The upward revision follows a national accounts base-year update to 2022-23 that integrates new data sources and methodological changes to reflect structural shifts, and it alters nominal GDP levels with consequential effects on fiscal-deficit ratios while leaving key fiscal indicators like primary and revenue deficits and capital expenditure ratios broadly unchanged.

New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) Wholesale price inflation rose to a 11-month high of 2.13 per cent in February, driven by an uptick in prices of food and non-food articles, even though vegetable prices eased on a month-on-month basis, government data showed on Monday.

This is the fourth straight month of rise in Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation. It was 1.81 per cent in January and 2.45 per cent in February last year.

Economists said the WPI inflation is likely to pick up pace further if the oil price rise persists, and spills over to other goods (fertilisers, aluminium) given it tracks international prices more closely relative to the CPI basket.

According to WPI data, inflation in food articles was 2.19 per cent in February, as against 1.55 per cent in the previous month.

Although in vegetables, inflation eased to 4.73 per cent in February against 6.78 per cent in January, pulses, potato and egg, meat and fish saw an uptick in inflation in February.

"Positive rate of inflation in February 2026 is primarily due to an increase in prices of other manufacturing, manufacture of basic metals, non-food articles, food articles and textiles, etc.," the industry ministry said in a statement.

Negative inflation, or deflation, in the fuel and power basket narrowed to 3.78 per cent in February, vis-a-vis 4.01 per cent in January. Global oil prices averaged USD 68/bbl in February from USD 63/bbl in January.

Barclays in a research note said the passthrough of the rise in crude oil prices from the Middle East conflict will reflect more in WPI inflation vs retail CPI inflation, as retail fuel prices are unchanged in the latter.

"With a sharp jump in crude oil prices crossing USD100/bbl as of 16 March, the corresponding WPI will likely reflect this in the March print," Barclays said.

India Ratings and Research the rising crude oil prices since the US-Iran war will have a strong impact on wholesale inflation from March 2026, till the supply side issues are resolved.

The average price of Indian crude basket March 2026 (up to March 12) touched a 44-month high of USD 101.25/bbl. Ind-Ra Chief Economist Devendra Pant expects wholesale inflation to stay high amidst US-Iran war and a low base.

"The retail prices of petroleum products might remain the same for some time, which may negate any sharp jump in retail inflation. However, the increase in crude oil prices will push wholesale inflation higher. Ind-Ra expects wholesale inflation in March to jump to 3.7 per cent," Pant said.

As per WPI data for February, inflation in manufactured products inched up to 2.92 per cent in February, from 2.86 per cent in the preceding month.

Non-food articles category inflation spiked to 8.80 per cent in February, from 7.58 per cent in January.

PHDCCI President Rajeev Juneja said given the geopolitical risks, a continued policy focus on improving supply-chain efficiencies, lowering logistics costs, supporting domestic manufacturing, and ensuring adequate availability of critical inputs for industry is critical to contain cost-push pressures.

As per data released last week, India's retail inflation rose to 3.2 per cent in February, from 2.75 per cent in January.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced policy interest rates by 1.25 percentage points in the current fiscal year as inflation remained low. The RBI mainly tracks retail inflation for deciding on benchmark interest rates. PTI JD JD DR DR
