Sugar price-control measures combine raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits and export restrictions to curb retail price pressures.
Sugar price-control measures combine authorised raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits for dealers and bulk consumers, and an existing export prohibition to address elevated domestic prices. Imports are permitted within the specified period, while stockholding restrictions seek to curb speculation and hoarding. Retail prices continued to rise despite lower ex-mill prices, and the regulatory approach focuses on augmenting supply, limiting stock accumulation, and preventing export-related pressure on domestic availability.

Input tax credit mismatch alone cannot support fraud-based GST demand without an assessing officer's recorded satisfaction of fraud or suppression.
Section 74 GST demand proceedings require the assessing officer's independent satisfaction of fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts. An input tax credit mismatch or alleged short payment alone cannot establish these conditions. Unsupported assertions of suppression for invoking extended limitation are insufficient, and audit objections cannot replace the assessing officer's satisfaction. A show cause-cum-demand notice lacking factual allegations of a deliberate device to evade tax or avail excess input tax credit is vulnerable.

Foreign investment liberalisation proposals receive industry support, subject to preserving AIF treatment, grandfathering, and prospective application.
Proposed foreign-investment liberalisation, including treatment of stakes below 10 per cent and a greater role for market forces in valuation, is welcomed. Preservation of the existing treatment of Alternative Investment Funds under the IOCC framework is emphasised, together with grandfathering of transactions and funds undertaken under the current regulatory position. Newly introduced requirements should operate prospectively to support a simpler, predictable and investment-friendly foreign-investment framework.

Non-revolving credit lines require term-loan structures supporting multiple drawdowns without replenishing sanctioned limits for NBFC lending products.
Proposed restrictions on revolving credit facilities for most NBFCs would generally require credit products to operate as term loans, rather than facilities in which principal repayment automatically restores the available borrowing limit. Compliance may require technology capable of managing multiple drawdowns within an approved sanction, separate repayment schedules, amortisation and servicing workflows, while preventing repaid principal from replenishing the sanctioned limit.

Reciprocal trade tariffs intensify as negotiations confront market access, cultural protections, industrial safeguards, and sovereignty concerns.
US-Canada tariff escalation involves reciprocal import duties following failed negotiations over market access and trade in dairy, alcoholic beverages, automobiles, steel, aluminium and softwood lumber. United States tariff action relies on a rarely used trade-law power permitting duties against countries considered to discriminate against American businesses, without a prior investigation or stated time limit. Negotiations also raised concerns about protection of major industries, cultural protections and Canada's freedom to conclude trade agreements with other countries.

Customs classification of unassembled vehicle imports requires fresh hearing after reserved tax challenge was released without verdict.
The dispute concerns customs classification of imported unassembled vehicle parts. Customs authorities allege that parts imported in separate shipments should have been declared as completely knocked down (CKD) units, attracting the higher duty applicable to CKD imports, rather than as individual components subject to lower duty. The manufacturer contests the resulting customs demand. Proceedings have been released for fresh hearing before the regular indirect-tax writ bench, with status quo maintained for four weeks.

Foreign-exchange market conditions supported rupee appreciation against the US dollar, driven by stronger domestic equity markets, a weaker US dollar and lower crude oil prices. The USD/INR pair remained broadly range-bound, with oil-price movements and Reserve Bank intervention identified as key near-term influences. The special USD-INR foreign-exchange swap facility for FCNR(B) deposits, overseas foreign-currency borrowings and external commercial borrowings mobilised substantial foreign-exchange inflows.

Section 301 tariffs may have lower impact where major exports remain outside their scope amid resilient domestic demand.
Economic resilience is attributed to buoyant domestic demand, increased manufacturing and services activity, improving liquidity conditions, credit growth, investment activity and rebounding foreign capital inflows. Recovery in the southwest monsoon improved kharif sowing and reservoir storage, partly mitigating agricultural-sector risks. US Section 301 tariffs are expected to have a comparatively lower effect because major Indian exports to the United States, including smartphones, petroleum products and pharmaceuticals, remain outside their scope. Foreign direct investment improved with higher gross inflows, while outward foreign direct investment continued to decline.

Reform-oriented India taking big decisions, now trusted partner for investors: PM at Safran event

Hyderabad, Nov 26 (PTI) Highlighting India's investment potential, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the country is now a reform-oriented one that takes big decisions and has become a trusted partner for investors.

After virtually inaugurating French major Safran's Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility for LEAP engines used in commercial aircraft here, Modi said the unit will also help provide job opportunities for youngsters.

India has decriminalised hundreds of business-related provisions, he said, underlining that the National Single Window System has brought numerous approvals onto a single platform.

He noted that GST reforms, faceless tax assessment, new labour codes, and the insolvency and bankruptcy code have all made governance simpler and more transparent than ever before.

"Because of these efforts, India is now seen as a trusted partner, a major market, and a rising manufacturing hub. India today has rapid growth, a stable government, a reform-oriented mindset, a vast young talent pool, and a large domestic market. And most importantly, for those investing in India, the country considers them not merely as investors but as co-creators, stakeholders in the journey of Viksit Bharat (Developed India)," he said.

In the last few years, India's aviation sector has taken a huge leap and today the country is one of the fastest growing domestic aviation markets in the world, Modi said, adding that India's domestic market is the third largest in the world.

As the aspirations of the people of India are on a new level, the demand for air travel in the country is increasing, prompting Indian carriers to continuously increase their active fleet. India's airline companies have ordered more than 1,500 new aircraft, he said.

With the rapid expansion of India’s aviation sector, the need for MRO facilities has also increased, he further said, adding that nearly 85 percent of the country's MRO work has been taking place abroad. This has led to higher costs, longer turnaround times, and aircraft remaining grounded for extended periods.

He said that such a situation was not suitable for a vast aviation market like India. Therefore, the Government of India is developing the nation as one of the world's major MRO hubs, he said.

Referring to Safran's facility, Modi said now, for the first time, a global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) is establishing Deep Level Servicing facility in the country.

In addition, the partnership of Team Safran's global training, knowledge transfer and India's institutions will create a workforce that will give a new direction to the entire MRO ecosystem in the coming years, Modi said. With the facility, there will be many opportunities for the youth of South India to get employment.

"And we do not just want to be limited to aviation MRO. We are also working on a very large scale on the MRO ecosystem related to shipping. In addition, we are also promoting design in India on a large scale," the PM said.

Modi said he would like Safran to use India's talent and opportunities for propulsion design and manufacturing, as the country is not just dreaming big, but taking big decisions and achieving even bigger achievements. According to him, the country opened the doors of the economy, secondly strengthened its fundamentals and thirdly made business easier.

"In addition, today 100 per cent FDI is possible in most sectors. In sectors such as defence, where there was no place for the private sector earlier, 74 per cent FDI has been opened automatically. There is also a lot of progress in the space sector," he explained.

The Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility in the city will be operational in 2026 and will be a major boost for the country's indigenous capabilities in the fast-growing aviation sector, a press release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had said.

The facility, set up with an initial investment of Rs 1,300 crore, is for the LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engines, which power the narrow-body Airbus A320 Neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

LEAP engines are manufactured by CFM International, an equal joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace, the release had added.

Designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually, SAESI facility will employ over 1,000 highly skilled Indian technicians and engineers upon achieving full operational capacity by 2035, the release issued on Tuesday said.

It had also said that developing indigenous capabilities in MRO will reduce foreign exchange outflows, create high-value employment, strengthen supply-chain resilience and position India as a global aviation hub. PTI RAM GDK VVK SA
