Raw-material security and import-duty reform are urged to strengthen ferro-alloy competitiveness amid expanding steel demand.
Ferro-alloy competitiveness depends on raw-material security, commercially viable domestic mineral access and lower input costs as steel demand expands. Faster exploration and development of manganese, chrome and other critical minerals, supported by mine-auction frameworks that encourage operational production, can reduce import dependence. Measures sought include zero import duties on unavailable-grade raw materials for noble alloys, competitive electricity costs and rationalised electricity levies. Cleaner energy, efficient furnaces, automation and improved raw-material utilisation are also necessary to reduce costs and emissions.

Capability export reshapes overseas expansion through localization, ecosystem deployment, and adaptation to local regulatory and cultural conditions.
Chinese corporate globalisation is moving towards capability export, involving the transfer of operating capabilities into overseas markets with local adaptation. Expansion requires understanding local rules, investing in local capabilities and building stakeholder trust. Chain-style globalisation extends industrial ecosystems through suppliers and partners, while swarm-style globalisation enables smaller firms to use industrial clusters, platforms and logistics networks. Overseas operations must address fragmented demand, regulatory complexity, local-content requirements, supply-chain gaps and cultural differences. New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said the details of the text of the Indian-US trade agreement are not yet public, but stressed that not a single Indian sensitivity has been compromised in the pact.

He said the government holds wide-ranging consultations with all stakeholders concerned before finalising any free trade agreement (FTA).

Every single FTA or PTA (preferential trade agreement) or BTA (bilateral trade agreement) that this government has concluded has been widely welcomed by the stakeholders, he said here at a SIAM event.

"I have yet to see a single criticism on any of the agreements which are out there. The US details are not out there, so some people are trying to spread a total falsehood. I can state with the authority of the position I hold, not a single sensitivity of India we have compromised in the US BTA.

"Every farmer's sensitivity, every fisherman's sensitivity, sensitivity of our MSMEs, sensitivity of our workers, sensitivity of our handloom and handicrafts sectors and sensitivity of your (auto) industry," Goyal said.

To the highest extent possible and in consultation with the auto sector, the agreement has been finalised, he added.

"And this is only the first tranche , we will continue to engage further," he said.

In February, India and the US announced finalisation of the framework for the first phase of the pact, but changes in the tariff landscape in the US have led to further negotiations between the two countries on the pact.

The US has imposed an additional 10 per cent tariff on a number of countries, including India, from July 24. PTI RR TRB
