      The WPI  for the week ended 18th December, 2010 in respect of 'Primary Articles' and 'Fuel & Power' is given below:

      PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 20.12%) 

      The index for this major group rose by 1.0 percent to 189.7 (Provisional) from 187.9 (Provisional) for the previous week.

      The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 17.24 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 18/12/2010 (over 19/12/2009) as compared to 15.35 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 11/12/2010). 

      The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

      The index for 'FOOD ARTICLES' group rose by 1.1 percent to 187.8 (Provisional) from 185.8  (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of poultry chicken (18%), condiments & spices, fruits & vegetables and moong (3% each) and bajra andjowar (1% each).  However, the prices of      fish-inland (4%), masur and arhar (2% each) and fish-marine and urad (1% each) declined.

      The index for 'NON-FOOD ARTICLES' group rose by 0.8 percent to 173.0 (Provisional) from 171.6  (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of, raw silk (8%), flowers (6%), raw rubber (4 %) and castor seed and cotton seed (1% each). However, the prices of gingelly seed (sesamum) (2%) and linseed, gaur seed and copra (1% each) declined.

      FUEL & POWER (Weight 14.91%)

       The index for this major group rose by 0.8 percent to 150.7 (Provisional) from 149.5  (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of petrol (6%), aviation turbine fuel (4%), light diesel oil (3%) and naphtha, furnace oil and bitumen (2% each).

      he annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 11.63 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 18/12/2010 (over 19/12/2009) as compared to 10.74 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 11/12/2010).
