Import of firearms: transfer-of-residence permits one firearm if possession, duty and valid arms licence conditions are met.

Import of firearms is generally prohibited, but a passenger transferring residence to India may import a single firearm through baggage once in a lifetime provided the firearm was possessed and used abroad for the requisite period, applicable customs duty is paid, and the passenger holds a valid Indian arms licence; the firearm may not be sold, loaned, transferred or otherwise parted with for a statutory retention period which may be endorsed on the arms licence, and disposal after that period is permitted only to persons legally entitled to possess the firearm.
